MIDTOWN, GA — Authorities were on the scene of a train derailment Monday morning in West Midtown. At least 25 cars went off the rails at the Northwest Atlanta Trainyard, according to news reports.
Images from local media showed a warped line of rail cars at the trainyard at W. Marietta Street and Marietta Boulevard. No injuries have been reported so far, officials said.
The trains belong to Norfolk Southern, spokeswoman Susan Terpay told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The train was on its way to Birmingham, she said.
The train contained no hazardous materials, said police, who are still investigating the scene. This is a developing story. Stay with Patch for the latest.
